Green Goddess Herbal Lemonade
As soon as the first daffodil blooms in the front yard I start craving lemonade
It tastes like sunshine and it's my favorite flavor to pair with tincture. Mixed with cannabis, citrus takes on a deep, dark, and spicy undertone. It has a refreshing aroma that reminds me of the redwood forest after the rain. Lemons are, of course, choc full of the terpene limonene which is one in the very same as the limonene that gives cannabis strains like Super Lemon Haze, Chernobyl, and Tangie their distinctive flavors. Limonene itself has long been used by naturalists for it's antibacterial properties but it is also known to elevate the mood and uplift the mind. Even better, studies have shown that Limonene may even increase absorption of other terpenes once ingested, meaning that you may experience a little boost if you consume cannabis and lemonade at the same time. You really cant go wrong!
In celebration of the sun coming our way I wanted to share my all time favorite tincture cocktail recipe.
For step one you'll want to grab a little saucepan
Toss in your honey and ginger, add two cups of filtered water, and bring the whole thing to a nice simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once it gets to a good rolling boil turn off the heat and let it all steep for about 10 minutes. You can strain the concoction if you want or, if you like a spicier kick, go ahead and leave the ginger in. Refrigerate the whole thing until it's nice and cool. When the syrup is ready, mix it with your lemon juice and 4 cups of cool filtered water in a large pitcher. You are halfway there!
now it's time to get all fancy with it.
For step two you'll need to get yourself a martini shaker. I promise you it's worth it. Once you get into formulations it's a really fun addition to have on hand. If you don't have one on hand a mason jar with a lid will do. Either way, in your shaking apparatus you will put your extra shredded ginger, a couple of citrus slices, an ice cube or two, and your herbal additions. My absolute favorite combination for this cocktail is fresh juniper berry and western red cedar leaves. Pour your lemonade over the top and add the desired amount of your favorite cannabis tincture. Note: I always recommend that people start small when trying a tincture for the first time. About a quarter of a dropper full or less is a great. You can always add more later but I'd give yourself a good 30-45 min after trying your first cocktail to decide. Once it's all in the martini shaker give it a nice 30 second shake, pour it over garnish into your cutest little vintage cups, and enjoy!
